The Story and Facts

After many months of trying this on my own, I turn to you and the world to help me out. I believe in the goodness of other people, thanks in large part to one of the most beautiful people in the world, MY MOM!

In October of 2008 my mother passed away after a lengthy battle with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). She passed too soon, my mom was only 69. I miss you mom! She was diagnosed with COPD in 2003, although this would slow her down considerably and require her to be on full time oxygen, it didn't slow her down. She still would drive herself to church, soup kitchens and libraries to volunteer her time. Being an avid reader and former teacher she loved to read and teach the children, especially those less fortunate. Mom was the type of person that if she had one single dollar, she would lend it to someone in a time of need.

From the time she was diagnosed she could not live on her own and required someone to take care of her. I was 24 at the time, and took on the responsibility. I gave up many things in my life, but in the end wouldn't trade it for the world. I spent so many wonderful nights and days talking to my mom, laughing and telling stories. She helped me become the person I am today.

My mom was always a person that owned up to her debts, and she instilled this within her own children. I figured I would create this web blog and reach those people that share this same view. The creditors are calling, there was nothing more in her estate, and even though I am not required to pay them, it isn't right to let it go. Our economy is bad enough as it is, and I know my mom would want it paid.

Moms total debt including her own medical expenses (prescriptions, hospitals, hospice, etc.), donations to charity (Catholic Church, Goodwill, etc.), and small personal debt totals up to $57,673. Now about $27,000 of that is tied up in unsecured debt, the balance is a second mortgage on the house in which I own. It was part of the debt consolidation to save money. She had many high interest credit cards as most of us do. Most of us have older relatives, friends, or neighbors, and know medical care is expensive in this country. In fact her last two weeks in hospice care was close to $5,000!

So I am turning to you good people and all people around the world to help me. Help me pay some, or all of my moms debt. Its a lesson that can be passed on to others, that you pay your debts, that good people help you in a time of need. She did so much for her community and never asked anyone for anything. Now its time I, on her behalf ask you to help her, my family and her legacy. Any additional monies will be donated to the North Memorial Hospice unit, which has a fund to help those who can not afford hospice care.

If you think about it all I need is 50,000 people to donate one single dollar each. That is skipping a bottle of soda, or skipping a bottle of water. Its that simple! If more people donate we will be helping a great cause with North Memorial Hospice. Here is there website http://www.northmemorial.com/Services/hospice/

They do great work and I am truly grateful to them.

Donations are set up in my moms name through paypal: MarthaConley@gmail.com
Links are set up on the top right of the page or at the bottom.

I will update the blog every few days, with totals, thanks, and other stories people may share.

Thank you all very much for taking the time to read this and I wish you all the best.
